Digitalis grandiflora, the Large Yellow Foxglove is a biennial or perennial plant native to Southern Europe to Siberia. This is one of the toughest and best performers of all the foxgloves. It can reach 24" to 36" tall. It features large 2 inch, butter-yellow bells in early Summer. The pale yellow flowers are produced on spikes that rarely exceed a meter 3 feet in height. Leaves are produced in the first year and the tall spikes of flowers the second year. The leaves are smooth-textured, 7-25 x 2-6 cm, ovate-lanceolate, finely serrate and shiny above.

Hardiness zones 3-10, (-37°C/-35°F, 1°C/35°F) in Winter. Thrives in sun, but part shade in hot Summer areas. Although it prefers moist well drained soil it will tolerate some drought if planted in a shady border. Germination Easy to grow from seed started indoors a month before the last frost. Place seed on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost in pots or trays. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged. Keep a temperature of 65-75°F. Light aids germination. The seeds should germination in 14-21 days, it can be more, don't give up.
