This mix contains about 12 varieties of cactus seeds collected from natural populations throughtout the southwest United States. The Barrel Cacti, Ferocactus, have extremely fierce-looking, with long and ornamental spines. These cylindrical cacti are usually around 5 to 6 inches in diameter, but can grow up to a foot or more. They are usually among the largest cacti of the North American deserts. Large yellow to orange-yellowflowers appear in Summer on older specimens. Barrel Cactus flowers always grow at the top of the plant. The Old Man Cactus is a tree-like cactus native to Mexico. It is hardy, and can bloom red, yellow, or white. Its primary feature is its long white hair near the tips of its branches. The white hairy surface of the Old Man Cactus helps the plant reflect the hot desert sun. The Column Cactus is exactly as it sounds, one of the straightest, sturdiest cacti around. Easy to work with, and extremely resilient, this cactus is planted in areas that other, weaker cacti may find difficult or impossible to grow in. These upright cacti grow up to 3 to 6 feet indoors. They are a smooth blue-green with brown spines. The flowers are white with outer petals tipped various colors and open at night.
